MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 16 — Donaldson Company, Inc. (NYSE: DCI), today announced that it has appointed Paul David Miller, Admiral, United States Navy (Retired) to its board of directors effective immediately.

 

Miller is chairman and chief executive officer of Minneapolis-based Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK), a $1.7 billion aerospace and defense company with leading positions in propulsion, composite structures, munitions, and precision capabilities. He joined ATK in January 1999.

"Following his distinguished Navy career, he has established an enviable record in industry, first with Litton Industries, then as CEO of ATK where he has led a significant increase in shareholder value. I am delighted to have him join our board."

 

Prior to joining ATK, Miller was with Litton Industries, Inc., where he headed Litton Marine Systems and served as president of Sperry Marine Inc. He joined Litton/Sperry in 1994, following a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy. Prior to retirement, Admiral Miller was Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Atlantic Command, one of five U.S. theater commands, and served concurrently as NATO Supreme Allied Commander-Atlantic. Other major duty assignments during his Navy career included Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet, and Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Naval Warfare).

 

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Miller holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Florida State University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia. He attended the U.S. Naval War College and the Harvard Business School Executive Management Program, and is the author of several works on leadership and strategy. Miller serves on the board of directors of SunTrust Bank (mid-Atlantic region) and of Teledyne Technologies Inc. (NYSE: TDY).
